Four Weeks Old!

I know I’m a day early but Lyla is napping and I thought I should take advantage of the opportunity! Lyla is changing so much already even though she’s still so little. She’s getting better at holding up her head, even if it’s brief. She’s been much more alert this week and awake for much longer periods (usually happy!). We’re getting into a routine it seems. She goes to bed about 11ish and sleeps until about 3ish, eats, then sleeps from about 4-8. Then we hang out in bed together for a bit (and often go back to sleep for an hour or two (or three!). Then we get dressed and play and then she’s ready for a late morning nap. In the afternoons we usually go for a walk or run errands. She still likes to cluster feed in the evenings but is starting to grow out of that a bit. Bath time is fun as long as her tummy is full. Then we watch a little TV and it’s time for bed and the day is over! It’s been getting warm and she’s starting to grow into her summer 3 month clothes (although they all seem really wide on her even if they fit in length—maybe they’re designed for fat babies?!) She’s almost grown out of the newborn diapers too but the size 1 still seems a bit big. She’s mastered her burping skills (no cute little baby burps for her—only loud manly belches! Her daddy is so proud as you can imagine!) Our latest challenge is that she seems to always keep her head turned to the right and we don’t want our little munchkin developing torticollis or plagiocephaly! (ie- a tilted neck and flat head!) I’m working on it but she doesn’t seem to be listening! Here’s this week’s photos—she looks so grown up!

Three Weeks Old!

I can't believe Lyla has already been here for three weeks. Sometimes I forget what it was like without her here. We had a fun week--Lyla went to her first baseball game--the Erie Seawolves (Mike had a school field trip there so we joined them). She seemed to enjoy it as she slept through most of it! We've been taking lots of walks with the dogs and Lyla's friend Caroline (and Anna!). She likes her stroller and falls right to sleep even if she's crabby when I put her in. She seems to like her baths a lot as long as we keep it warm--we might have a little swimmer on our hands :) We ran lots of errands this week and I got most of my "to-do" list checked off which was nice. Clothes shopping is not fun. Someone should have warned me not to attempt to try on clothes two weeks post partum, but I don't have a whole lot that fits since all of my maternity clothes are "professional" clothes for work which I'm not going to wear around the house, and all my casual clothes are pre-pregnancy and don't even come close to fitting. Someone also should have warned me not to get on a scale. Depressing. Oh well. On a positive note, Lyla slept SIX hours straight last night!!!! From 10:30-4:30. Then she had a quick snack, I put her back to bed awake and she put herself right back to sleep and slept until 8:30. What a good little baby! Keep up the good work munchkin :) She's still prone to evening fussiness and likes to eat a lot in the evenings, but I think it helps her sleep well at night so I can't complain. She's been a lot more awake and alert this week which has been fun. We've been playing with all her new toys and reading lots of books (I forgot how much fun Dr. Seuss is!) I keep thinking how I only have a few more weeks before I have to go back to my rotations and it makes me pretty sad. We've been having lots of good fun together I know it's going to be a tough transition. At least Mike will be with her the first few weeks (good luck with that Mike!) Here's some photos from the past week. Also, I put a link to our Flickr account on the top left hand side of the page.

Two Weeks Old!

Where has the time gone? Lyla is already two weeks old! I feel like before I know it she'll be in kindergarten, then college! I don't know how the days pass so quickly but they do! This week my mom came to visit for a few days which was very nice. Lyla had tons of fun playing with Grand-maman...especially all the fun developmental games--she's going to be so smart! Lyla also learned that pacifiers aren't so bad and they're especially nice late in the afternoon to help calm her during her crabby period. She has a tough time keeping it in her mouth though and just prefers you hold it for her! She also only likes the funny Soothie pacifiers even though I have close to two dozen of the other brands! She's been sleeping like a champ--3-4 hour blocks at night, eats, then right back to sleep, so I usually get at least 8 hours each night. I've actually been waking her up to eat since I wake up, but now that she's back to her birth weight (exactly 7lbs 4oz today at 2 weeks!) I can let her sleep until she's hungry. She also likes to be swaddled really tightly in those swaddle sacs so we'll have to buy another one :) She had her first bath in real water since her umbilical stump fell off--she seemed to really like it the first time--not so much the second time! She went to another one of Daddy's soccer games and of course was the most popular one there! She also watched her first "darby" soccer game with Daddy (Man City vs Man United)...unfortunately the matching shirts did not bring City much luck! We also celebrated our first Mother's Day with our good friends Rachael, Max, and Sophie--Lyla really loved meeting them :) It was a great week! We have so many great photos--check them all out on flickr

Sleeping Beauty

I think Lyla overheard me saying she was not a good sleeper yet and decided to prove me wrong--last night she slept 11-4 (I woke up at 4 and she was still sleeping--who knows how long she would have continued to sleep!) then she ate and went right back to sleep and slept 5-9! I'm crossing my fingers this was not a fluke and that she keeps up the good work! Today she went on another outing--this time to Lowes and Home Depot to look for new patio furniture. She was great and slept the entire time. She seems to sleep a lot in the mornings and has a bit of a fussy period in the late afternoon/ early evening. She has one or two alert periods each day where she seems to be taking in her new surroundings which is really fun to watch. Even when she's sleeping it's just fun to hold her and smell her--she's pretty darn cute if I do say so myself :)

One Week Old!

Lyla is one week old today! I can hardly believe it--the week has flown by! We've been having so much fun getting to know this little person. Lyla's grandpa and grand-maman came to visit during her first few days which was really nice. Mike was off work for the week but went back today. It was nice to spend a few days just the three of us. Lyla also met her other grandpa and nana and Aunts Beckie and Amy all the way over in England via the wonderful technology of skype! Lyla has been a pretty good baby so far (I say this as she is screaming at the top of her lungs!) She sleeps great from about 4am-10am...all other times are pretty much a toss up, except that she does NOT sleep from 11pm-4am. Fun. She had her first doctor's appointment which went well and doesn't have to go back until she's one month old! Tonight Lyla is going to her first soccer game--go Bobcats! She also went on her first trip to the grocery store this week and slept the entire time in her sling :) She's been on a couple walks in her stroller and enjoyed that too. She's had two sponge baths which she didn't seem to love, but hopefully that will get better when her umbilical stump falls off and she can have a real bath.

Playing with daddy :)

She's Here!

Lyla Macy arrived Friday May 1st 2009 at 12:13pm.

She weighed 7lbs 4oz and was 20.5 inches long.

We are so thrilled she is finally here and are loving getting to know her.
